The exhibition presents large-format, old photographs of Bojary - one of the oldest and until not that long ago one of the most charming neighbourhoods of Białystok. The oldest photographs are from the early XXth century.

Old photographs

Most of them document the family and social life that once bloomed in this nieghbourhood. We encourage our visitors to sit next to a wooden fence on a wooden bench, where you can listen to stories (recorded voices of Bojary's inhabitants) about the former charms of Bojary. Even though these are very personal stories, about various things, they are linked by a great sentiment for Bojary - the neighbourhood that the storytellers and their audience perceive as a land of beauty, peace and safety. The Bojary of the past is a carefree Arcadia in the middle of a big city.

The exhibited material is a selection from a larger collection, that was gathered by the Ludwik Zamenhof Centre as a part of the BOJARY PROJECT - an initiative to search and gather photographs documenting the neighbourhood, as well as recording the memories of its inahbitants. The project is being implemented since December 2009. The exhibition includes an album on Bojary, which was published as a part of the first edition of the project (December 20120 - February 2011).

At the Centre's box-office you can buy "Bojary 2", a publication that is a continuation of the said project. Besides exceptionally interesting photographs and memories, the album includes academic texts written by historians and architects from Białystok.
