meeting with Milosz Hermanowicz

The exhibition of Mariusz Hermanowicz in the Ludwik Zamenhof Center in Bialystok is a part of the Bialystok Interphoto Festival. It's first such big presentation of his art for over a decade. In addition to his original works of the earlier period of creativity there will be also the photographs that the author created in the last period of his life, mainly portraits, very rarely so far presented in public circulation and to which attached great importance.

The work of Mariusz Hermanowicz is based on close links with time. This sense of observation streaked with humor and irony. Famous reportage series was built between 1969-1977 "The view from my window" for which he received the prestigious Gold Amber Prize.

This kind of photographing was getting good in the mood if we recall that it was the first time a social uprising of Solidarity with 1980-81. It is this impact of writing of everyday events, not to say trivial of historical time registration, gives a subjective registration of past, which takes on additional meaning, becoming a field of consecutive interpretation.

The photographs Mariusz Hermanowicz have a kind of second bottom - we see the first "simple" layer, events, places or situations - but then it turns out that this "perceived" photograph that triggers in us an extra reflections, and allows us to open the unconscious senses and meanings. A special role is played in his hand prints signatures affixed by the author. These texts - comments and punch further strengthen the impact of these works. The practice of manually signing of photos, although prevalent in other authors (eg. Duane Michals, Anna Beata Bohdziewicz) is the hallmark of Mariusz Hermanowicz and it was consistently implemented almost all the years of his activities.
