Władysław Pietruk has been creating drawings for over 45 years. He is the author of more than seven thousand drawings, eight albums, 60 posters, 200 illustrations and bookplates, projects of book covers, graphic designs, 55 original drawing portfolios, 30 illustrated volumes of poetry as well as other publications. His works have been presented at over 40 Polish and international exhibitions. His album Architektura i przyroda Województwa Podlaskiego w rysunkach Władysława Pietruka (Architecture and Nature of the Podlasie Voivodeship in the Drawings of Władysław Pietruk) received the 2010 Złote Gryfy (Golden Griffins) award in the national contest for best quality in polygraphy. The album Cerkwie w rysunkach Władysława Pietruka (Eastern Orthodox Churches in the Drawings of Władysław Pietruk) got the “Best Book of 2017″editorial award at the Moscow international contest for editors in the category – best foreign book. In 2015 he was granted a scholarship from the President of the city of Białystok.

Intending to emphasize the distinctive atmosphere of our city and to accent its multiculturalism, from the immense number of drawings fund within the artist’s collection we have made specific, subjective selections. We also take this opportunity to carry out an experiment. Some of the artist’s drawings have been enlarged and exhibited on various materials. It will be up to the judgment of the beholders whether in this exercise the master’s work has been vindicated…

We hope that the proposed symbolic walk through places preserved in the artist’s drawings will give you a reason to take a new look at Białystok and discover it anew.

The exhibition is accompanied by a publication – a portfolio containing 15 drawings – available at the Ludwik Zamenhof Center’s cashier’s office for 20 PLN.
