The Ola Bilińska’s Polish-Lithuanian project is an innovative, magical journey to the world of mystical folk music. The artist explores there the essence of the place – Suwałki Region, where she is more and more gaining a foothold in; an unusual place, bustling with traditions of Polish-Lithuanian borderland.
The project was born out of the inspiration and fascination with Lithuanian folk music, especially with sutartinės – polyphonic songs – canons. This vocal, traditional element will be woven into pieces of modern, elaborate musical forms, rich in rhythmic. The instruments used in the project perfectly combine acoustic sounds of traditional instruments with subtle electronics. However, the human polyphonic voice remains the main and leading element.
Ola Bilińska invited three Lithuanians, who sing traditional songs, to participate in the project. The Krisciunaite sisters: Lauksmina, Domakinja, and Raminta create a phenomenal and colourful Lithuanian trialogue, perfectly integrating the entire event into the space between tradition and discovering the new. The lyrics of the songs, which will sound in Polish, Lithuanian, and English, are poems written by Bilińska - fairy tales, myths, and legends, showing the extraordinary Suwałki borderland.
The band consists of:
Ola Bilińska – vocals, electronics
Lauksmina Krisciunaite – vocals
Raminta Krisciunaite – vocals
Domakinja Krisciunaite – vocals
