30,000 Jews had lived in Bucharest before the World War II. Currently, this community is ten times smaller. Its enormous contribution to the development of the city is unquestionable, although today most of its inhabitants and tourists are not aware of this legacy.

The exhibition compares pre-war pictures of the intensively developing Jewish community of Bucharest with contemporary photographs of its heritage. These photographs do not document the history of the Jews of Bucharest, they are only excerpts from it and they can be used like pieces of a puzzle to create one’s own picture of the city’s past.
