The Kazanecki Award winners have been named

This year, two Wiesław Kazanecki Literary Awards of the Białystok City Mayor have been granted. One of them was awarded to Anna Kamińska for the book “Białowieża in a Whisper. Białowieża Forest Stories” (“Białowieża szeptem. Historie z Puszczy Białowieskiej”). The second award, for lifetime achievement including the “Ancestry” (“Rodosłów”) volume poetry, was granted to Mira Łuksza.

The announcement of the the winners and the award ceremony took place on March 23rd, 2018 at the Fama club. Statuettes were awarded to the winners by the Białystok City Mayor Tadeusz Truskolaski.

Anna Kamińska
Has been writing for “Gazeta Wyborcza” among others. She is the author of the book “Dicovered. True Stories of the Adopted” (“Odnalezieni. Prawdziwe historie adoptowanych”) (2010) and bestselling biographies: Wanda Rutkiewicz’ “Wanda” (2017) and Simona Kossak’s “Simona” (2015). She had already been nominated to the Kazanecki Award for the latter. “Białowieża in a Whisper. Białowieża Forest Stories” is a unique reportage about an extraordinary and magical place, which is the Białowieża Forest.

Mira Łuksza
Poet, writer, journalist and translator of Belarusian ancestry. She writes in Polish and Belarusian, and has published a total of over a dozen volumes of poetry and prose. She is a member of the editorial board of the “Niva” Belarusian minority weekly in Poland. “Ancestry” is a selection of poems written by her in Polish and Belarusian in the last 25 years.

The list of the nominees to the 27th Wiesław Kazanecki Literary Award of the Białystok City Mayor also included Ignacy Karpowicz (for “Love” – “Miłość”), Krzysztof Puławski (for “Deadlings” – “Martwiątka”), and Ewa Włodarska (for “License for the First Snow” – “Licencja na pierwszy śnieg”).
